As a Screenwriter...


David Grimm wrote and adapted dialogue for Matthew Barney and Jonathan Bepler's epic 5-hour film opera, The River of Fundament, starring Ellen Burstyn, Paul Giamatti, Maggie Gyllenhaal, Elaine Stritch, Fran Lebowitz, Debbie Harry, and many others. The film premiered at Brooklyn Academy of Music in February, 2014. It is currently on tour internationally. Other screenwriting work includes development work for Princess Pictures, as well as Mercy (Bruckheimer), and Sheridan (based on his play; for Lary Simpson).

As a Lyricist...

 

Grimm collaborated with composer Peter Golub on Boxes, Buckets & Bags, a short song cycle for Soprano and String Quartet, performed in 2011 by Amelia Watkins and the ACME ensemble as part of 21c Liederabend @ The Kitchen.

As contributing writer...


Grimm wrote additional material for the 2012 Folger Library Theatre's production of Susanna Centlivre's Restoration Comedy, The Gaming Table, directed by Eleanor Holdridge, which The Washington Post called "a plume in the Folger's hat."

 

Grimm has participated in many short play festivals. For the 24-Hour Plays, he wrote "Divinity du Styx." For the One Minute Play Festival, he penned "Brooklyn Evening" and "Political Theatre." New York Theatre Workshop presented "Their Sabbath Passeth in Disgrace or, 'Tis Pity She's a Roast" as part of their Verse Slam. For Red Bull's Verse Play Festival, Grimm wrote "A La Recherche du Frank Perdue."

 

His deconstruction of Dickens, A Christmas Golem, recieved a special performance at The Goodman and aired on Minnesota Public Radio. 

As an Actor...


David Grimm trained as an actor and has appeared as Steve in is own play, Steve & idi, at Rattlestick Playwrights Theatre. Other roles he has enjoyed include Jonathan in J. Julian Christopher's Locusts Have No King at INTAR, Clincher Senior in Farquar's Restoration Comedy The Constant Couple, The King of Aragon in Mucerdorus, and the villainous Lucas Brown in William Bell by Alejandro Morales. David also appears in Matthew Barney's film, River of Fundament as the bartender at Norman Mailer's wake.
